There are two upcoming workshops that are focusing on tree care. While they are being hosted in Riverside Avondale, the information shared will be beneficial for all Jacksonville residents.
The first workshop is occurring on Saturday, January 11th and is focused on pruning young trees. The event will run from 9:30-10:30am, and is hosted by Friends of Boone Park South and Riverside Avondale Preservation (RAP). According to the event description, "the best way to prevent structural failure of trees during storms is to maintain them properly. This workshop will offer hands on demonstrations of pruning techniques for homeowners with young trees. Participants will be able to use the information presented to prune their own trees, or be informed so they can hire professionals that can do the work properly." The presenter will be Larry Figart with Urban Forestry for the Duval County Extension Service. This workshop will be held in Boone Park at the St. Johns Ave and Van Wert St side of the park. This event is free to attend, and you can keep up with any event updates here.
The second workshop will take place on Thursday, January 16 from 6:30-7:30pm at the Riverside Presbyterian Church. This event is focusing on best tree care practices, for trees young and mature in the historic district. The presenter for this event is Dalton Smith, the Urban Forester with the City of Jacksonville. This event is also free to attend. You can stay posted on event updates here.
