With a Mediterranean revival feel to it, San Jose is home to neighborhoods that were established as far back as the late 1960s, and have turned over many times to new residents. In more recent years San Jose has undergone a resurgence and rehab boom. Neighborhoods such as San Jose Forest, Lakewood, Villa San Jose, Cathedral Oaks, and Point la Vista, all accessible from San Jose’s main artery, San Jose Boulevard, were built as upscale, mostly 1970’s ranch style homes. The Villages of San Jose is a unique space that’s worth a special mention. It’s a staffed gated community that has townhomes, condos and single family residences surrounding a man made lake, with lots of private amenities. Some homes back up to the San Jose Golf and Country golf course. Also in the heart of San Jose, the nationally recognized Bolles Preparatory School. The crown jewel in San Jose for upscale living is Epping Forest, former home of Alfred I. DuPont. It started out as a 58-acre estate built by the millionaire industrialist, and is now the site of a private gated community, with homes and condos from near one million to more than several million dollars. The DuPont’s former house is now the Epping Forest Yacht Club, a popular venue for upscale events. Just a mile or so south on San Jose boulevard there’s the Jewish Community Alliance, or JCA. It’s a central a gathering place for fitness, swimming, tennis, and also offers art, after school classes and cultural programs. It’s a popular place for any San Jose community group to meet and socialize right in their own backyard. The condominium choices in San Jose are also vast,and cross just about every price point. The Colony at San Jose off of Powers Avenue is one example of a great mid-priced option starting in the $50K range. It’s just across Toledo Road from Wolfson High School. The newest development is the high-end Old San Jose on the River, with new construction custom and semi custom homes, condos and coach homes starting in the $400s and reaching upwards of $2 million for the river front sites.
