North of downtown Jacksonville and established in 1869, Springfield boasts historic charm and and exemplifies styles of 19th and 20th century architecture. Brick and granite curbstones can still be found lining it's pavement. Accompanying the beautiful architecture in this neighborhood are trendy new restaurants, craft breweries, and giant oak trees; a trademark of Springfield. In the early 2000 Springfield found itself recognized by Southern Magazine as the "#1 comeback" neighborhood in the south; the Great Fire of 1901 created a foundation for transformation and diversity.
In Springfields historic district SPAR Council (Springfield Preservation and Revitalization) works to preserve and rehabilitate the the charm of their neighborhood by hosting events and assisting residents with their homes. These efforts can be seen in Springfield's annual home tour which displays some of the neighborhoods beautifully maintained historic homes.
